Sharing Table

The sharing table at our church is a symbol of our congregation's compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others. The table is open to anyone who is in need of food assistance and is stocked with a variety of non-perishable items that can provide sustenance to those facing hunger. Our church recognizes the importance of addressing food insecurity in our community and strives to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for those who are struggling. The sharing table is a simple yet powerful way that we can make a positive impact and demonstrate our values of kindness, generosity, and empathy.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) at First Christian Church: An Annual Transformation

Every July, there's a certain kind of magic that sweeps over First Christian. Like a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis, the church undergoes a breathtaking transformation for one very special week. This phenomenon? Vacation Bible School.

This isn't just an event for children. No, it's a wholesome experience where both adults and children come together, embodying the true essence of community. For five riveting evenings, the church buzzes with activities – lessons that touch the heart, songs that uplift the spirit, crafts that spark creativity, and refreshments that nourish the body. To ensure that every child immerses themselves in the VBS experience, meticulous preparations kick off well ahead of time, with decorations being a central focus.

In 2023, the VBS theme was nothing short of 'Stellar'. Now, one might wonder: What's so special about an outer space theme? It wasn't just about the vast expanse of the universe or the glittering stars. It was a symbolic journey, teaching our youth about letting their inner light shine bright, akin to the stars, with the guidance and grace of Jesus. The cosmic theme was not only fun but also deeply spiritual, allowing the children to connect the dots between the mysteries of the universe and their faith.

To witness the success of VBS, one needed to look no further than the subsequent Sunday service. Dubbed "Children's Sunday", it was a testament to the knowledge and experiences the children had gained throughout the week. The whole congregation, in a unified spirit, reveled in the teachings and revelations the young ones shared.

In essence, VBS at First Christian isn't just a week-long program. It's a heartwarming reminder of the power of community, the joy of learning, and the boundless realms of faith and imagination. It's a beacon, showing us that when we come together, there's no limit to the wonders we can achieve.

First Christian Church & Eastern Food Bank: A Partnership Feeding Hope

In a world where food insecurity remains a pressing issue, the collaboration between First Christian Church and the Eastern Food Bank of Oklahoma is a beacon of hope for many in Tahlequah. Together, they've embarked on a mission not just to feed bodies, but to nourish souls, fostering a community bound by the spirit of giving.

Every month, without fail, the church grounds come alive with bustling activity. The mission? Distributing boxes of essential food items to families in need. Over time, this partnership has seen a remarkable milestone – a distribution of over 5,000 boxes. Behind this number are countless stories of families for whom these boxes mean a hearty meal, a moment of respite, or simply a gesture that they're not alone in their struggles.

What's most notable about these monthly distributions is the sense of community they've fostered. Dubbed as an "all hands on deck" event, it truly epitomizes this phrase. From the youth to the elderly, from longtime church members to good Samaritans from the neighborhood, everyone converges to play their part. There are no prerequisites to help, no memberships required. All one needs is the spirit of service and the desire to make a difference.

But beyond the numbers and the logistics, the essence of this endeavor lies in its intangibles. Every box distributed is laden with more than just food; it's packed with hope, love, and the assurance that the community stands together. For many recipients, these boxes are a testament to the fact that in times of need, their community has their back.

In an era where divisions often make headlines, the collaboration between First Christian Church and the Eastern Food Bank of Oklahoma is a heartwarming testament to the power of unity. Their monthly distributions aren't just about food; they're about bridging gaps, fostering ties, and building a community where everyone has a seat at the table.
